Know About Cornea Treatment in India

If cornea becomes damaged through infection, disease or injury then the resulting scar can interfere with your vision which enters your eyes. The cornea is a protective, clear and outer layer of your eyes.

The sclera or the white portion of the eyes serves as barrier between dirt, germs and other foreign particles. This can harm the delicate portion of your eyes. The cornea is also capable of filtering ultra violet light.

Cornea plays an important role in vision. This is because as light enters the eye it is refracted or bent by the outside shape of your cornea. The curvature of this outer layer helps to determine how well the eyes can focus on close-ups and far away objects. It basically comprises of three layers which are

Epithelium: It is the superficial layer of the cornea and objects outside material from entering your eyes. This layer of cornea absorbs nutrition and oxygen from the tears.

Stroma:
This is the middle and the thickest portion of the part of the cornea because it is found behind the epithelium. It is basically made up of proteins and water which give it elasticity but a solid form.

Endothelium: It is the single layer of cells which is located between the aqueous humor (which is the clear fluid found the front and rear chambers of the eye) and stroma. Basically it acts as pump which is used to throw away extra water as it is absorbed by the stroma. Without this specialized function, the stroma can become opaque, hazy, water logged, opaque and hazy in appearance reducing the vision.

Cornea treatment in Delhi is done to replace the damaged tissue on the clear surface of the eyes. This is also known as Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK) or Corneal Graft. The graft usually interchanges the central corneal tissues that are damaged due to disease or injury with the healthy corneal tissue which is donated from the local eye bank.

Eye surgery in India is also known as ocular surgery which is performed on ten eyes or its adnexa with the help of ophthalmologist.
